By John Kirzno

It can be difficult trying to decide what sort of air conditioning unit to purchase because of the fact that there are so many types to choose from. It is even more challenging when you have no real idea about what air conditioning units are and how they work. It is only when you know what they do that you will be able to decide which type is the best for you. In order to do this, you have to educate yourself about the various options that are available.

Although a central air conditioning system may be best for some households, buying them always has its trade-offs between the lower purchase cost, the long-term value and efficiency. For this reason, when only a certain area of the home requires cooling, a room conditioner is the best choice. Yet, there are several models that are suitable for cooling a designated area. That is why you must look at all the options before buying.

Types of Air Conditioners

The type of room air conditioning unit depends partially on how much you are prepared to pay and where you want it to be placed. It may seem easy if you own a house, but if you are only renting then it may require the approval of the landlord. Here are some types of air conditioning units which may help you determine the model that will best suit you.

Window-mounted air condition units are the most common economical type. It can easily install in just a matter of minutes. You can simply place it in the window and plug it to a nearby outlet. Typically it is directly mounted into an open window where they can be installed into a hole that has been cut into the wall.

The wall-mounted air conditioning units are commonly used for both domestic and commercial used. This type of unit can be mounted at the desired level from floor to ceiling. Most models are remote control operated and are energy efficient. Even though it incorporates an elegant design, the installation of this type of unit requires some renovation work.

While a window or wall air conditioner is either permanently or seasonally installed for cooling a specific room. Portable air conditioners are mobile units that exhaust hot air through a connection out a window. This type is versatile and can be relocated in minutes to another room that needs cooling. While some mobile models are multifunctional and can include dehumidifying, air purification or heating functions, which is a plus, others are just simply cooling units. Although this is considered as a convenient type, it is more expensive than window models and some can be very heavy to relocate even though they have wheels.

Another type is the split air conditioning unit which is made up of two parts. The first part is the main evaporator that is situated in the room where you want the system to work. The other part of the unit is the external condenser box which can either be placed on an outside wall or it can be installed free standing on the ground or on the flat roof.

When purchasing any of the air conditioning units, one must also consider the best features that each product has to offer. These features include convenience in using the unit, energy efficiency, easy installation, and its adjust-ability.

Upon looking into the types and the features of the different air conditioning units that are available on the market, one can now better determine which type is going to meet the requirements which will be most beneficial to your home.
